Professor of Surgery
Professor John Cartmill studied a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) at the University of Sydney, and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery.
John worked at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital before studying his Master of Medicine at Sydney University and becoming a sugeon. John’s surgical training included time spent Papua New Guinea, country NSW, and the USA.
John is also interested in different types of surgery. The equipment and expertise available at Macquarie University Hospital allows him to use the latest technology on patients with abdominal and other problems.
John is now researching how to improve patient safety and medical communication. This includes communication between people working together, between doctors and their patients, and between people from different cultures.
